This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a classroom full of incredible students with diverse needs in a Specialized Learning Center (SLC). My students, ages 4–7, experience a range of challenges including autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and other developmental differences. Many are sensory seekers or experience emotional regulation challenges that can interfere with their ability to learn, focus, or feel safe in the classroom.

This project is all about building a calming sensory space—a peaceful retreat in our classroom where students can self-regulate, reset, and feel safe.

With the Lakeshore Quiet Time Privacy Cube, students will have a designated calm corner with visual boundaries that offer a sense of security. The color-changing sea lamp with relaxing nature sounds will add a soothing sensory element to promote calmness during overstimulating moments. The weighted sensory bracelets will provide deep pressure input that helps students stay grounded, particularly during transitions or moments of dysregulation. Lastly, the set of cozy cots will offer a comfortable space to rest and reset—whether it’s after an outburst or simply when they need a quiet break.

These tools will support emotional regulation, reduce behaviors, and help students return to learning in a safe and supportive way. Your donation will bring this calming space to life—empowering students to understand and manage their needs, and giving them the tools they deserve to succeed.
