Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students represent a unique demographic within the Seattle community. They are in a dual language immersion program, and their families are predominantly Latino immigrants experiencing the disproportionate effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on people of color.
To promote equity in education, these materials will support students who remain 100% remote without placing an extra strain on families.
My Project
During remote instruction, my students enjoyed the guided drawing lessons I taught. These drawing sessions had the dual purpose of creating space to just be together as a group, drawing, sharing our art, and letting our creativity flow. Guided drawing also allowed me to teach fundamental reading and writing skills as we labeled our drawings and described them using target vocabulary.
My students love to draw and I want them to continue creating art as they embark upon their next big transition, going from kindergarten to first grade.
Please help me give each student this special gift to celebrate all that they have accomplished this year!
