We are an at-risk preschool program, housed in a Title I elementary school. Our students are creative, imaginative, and curious. We are always looking for new ways to help us learn math, handwriting, and science.
Most of these students are unable to afford the rich preschool environment that they deserve.
Most students do not have access to learning materials, or even an adult to read to them outside of our classroom.
We want to build a rich, learning-based environment in which our students are given the ability to explore math, science, and art concepts.
My Project
In our classroom we encourage the children to recycle everyday items to turn it into art. Our children are extremely creative and are always looking for new materials to decorate their artwork with. In years past children have turned old corks into butterflies, caterpillar and many other bugs. This then turned into making homes for their new bugs. Many of these supplies are things we consume quickly as once a project starts we usually have our whole class engaged in these new creations. The dollies will help us create bags for special occasions, the butterfly bead will help us learn about a butterflies life cycle as we create a life cycle bracelet, the pom poms may be used to decorate hats we make for one of our spirit days. The possibilities are endless!
