This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are excited each week to come to music and see what I have planned for them. Most of my students are English Language Learners and live in a high poverty community with very little resources. I teach in a Title I school that provides breakfast and lunch at no cost to students. The student body is around 300. My kids have very little experiences outside of the educational setting.

We learn how music helps us understand culture and the community we live in.

Music allows the students to come together regardless of their language skills and partake in singing, dancing and performing. My goal is for them to have a life long relationship and love for music.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by giving each student the tools to create and bring to life the music that they have inside them. The Den Den drums and gong will help my students learn and perform music from other cultures. The tunable drums are a great stepping stone to introducing creativity in my primary grades.

The frog guiros and sea drum will help their imagination pop with inspiration and discovery as they put sounds to stories.

The bells will help every child bring winter/spring concerts to life as they eagerly perform for their families.
