My Students

Currently, I work in a fully inclusive school. Primarily, the players I educate are from the middle school grades (6-8); a majority of whom receive specialized instruction through Individual Education Programs (IEPs), while all students receive direct instruction in the inclusion setting. The needs of the students range from having a specific learning disability to intellectual impairments and medical diagnoses include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and DiGeorge Syndrome. My players are eager to succeed and learn despite the barriers they encounter and would benefit from receiving this new equipment.

These students already face obstacles due to their need for specialized programs, not having the appropriate equipment makes the task even more difficult.

Due to budget cuts in our school, it is necessary for myself to do projects like this in order to supply the equipment needed for our sports team. My students appreciate all the opportunities they are awarded through the generosity of the many donors who have donated to past projects.

My Project

These items will impact my students' everyday learning in my PE Class. Not all of them appear to directly affect their learning, but even items such as a 4-shelf mobile storage cabinet, help me to prepare the space for learning. Having equipment stored away in cabinets, carts, and in bags allows me to provide a clean and safe learning environment for my students. Also, having a new sound system in the gym, such as the LG XBOOM, will enhance the quality of instruction I am able to provide. Gymnasiums are often very loud and it can become difficult for students to hear instruction and feedback.

It is difficult for a teacher to replace equipment that has become unusable by everyday wear and tear without a budget.

Resistance bands become worn after daily use by multiple classes throughout the school year as well as battle ropes. These items often need to be replaced each year or every other year.
