Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like to learn to read? That is what our second graders are doing right now! With these magnetic letters and boards students will be able to make and learn new words daily to help with the reading process.
I teach at a Title I school where 93% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
73% of our students are still working on learning the English language. By having the magnetic letters and boards students will be able to manipulate words and improve their reading abilities.
My Project
Students will work in small groups and make new words. They will remove letters from the words to determine what new words can be made. Students will be able to work with word families and practice rhyming skills as well. The magnetic boards and letters will allow the students to visualize what they are doing and learning as well as physically manipulating the letters.
This project is important to my students because it will help them greatly improve their reading and writing skills.
My students will be better prepared for third grade with the help of these materials!
