My students need a bigger selection of books at their interest levels, a new mailbox because our's is broken, and different seating options, such as balance ball chairs, to help students wiggle and focus.
I work in a high poverty, low employment rural area in Maine. Every student receives free breakfast, lunch, and healthy snack from school daily.
My students are creative, loving, and enthusiastic about learning.
Many of them are behind in all areas of learning, are constantly wiggling, and needing reminders to focus and complete work. These kids go without at home on a daily basis and I want to give them a vibrant room that helps make learning come to life.
My Project
I currently have a 30 slot cardboard mailbox that is falling apart, making sending home papers difficult and needs to be replaced. The wooden mailbox that I am asking for is more durable and will be able to hold the students library books without falling apart.
My students are begging for new books at their reading and interest levels.
This year students have not been placing book orders through Scholastic, making it difficult for me to grow my selection of books. These boxed sets and graphic novels are books they have asked for and will help them grow as readers. My students also need balance ball chairs.
