My Students

My students are wonderful! Aren't they all? I teach on the island of Maui, Hawaii. My students are particularly interested in the environment and live a geographically rich life connected to the ocean and mountains surrounding us. If there ever was a group of students that want to help "Save the Earth", it is these kids.

The people of Hawaii are immersed in culture and my students show a reverence and a true love of learning.

We are somewhat isolated from the mainland USA and the rest of the world for that matter, so it is becoming increasingly important to me to make my lessons relevant and connect to real world circumstances. We know knowledge is power and they are ready for it.

My Project

We are in need of a couple interior design upgrades in our classroom and a vacuum to help stay clean. We do not have an area rug in our classroom right now and after spending many years with a rug area teaching in an elementary setting, I know how important it can be! We are missing out on carpet circle time, a comfy read aloud space or even a place the students can go for independent reading time. Without area rugs it’s hard to work places other than in a chair. Also, my current teacher work station is severely dated. The students and I would greatly appreciate an upgrade in quality and functionality to our ‘teacher work station.’ Mahalo
