Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diverse, enthusiastic learners. They love science experiments, reading, and writing comics. Our school is a true community school, providing many supports for the families of students, and connecting families to many local resources.

My students come from various parts of San Francisco, and attend a Title I school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch, and many families are in transition with housing.

These fifth graders are excited to engage in a bilingual classroom. They believe that school is work, and take this job seriously!

My Project

In my classroom, we have students reading and writing on a spectrum that ranges from end of kindergarten to about 7th grade. With such a high range of skills, I want to provide access to technology so that I can effectively accommodate the needs of my students.

With just four computers, my learners on the highest and lowest end of the spectrum will have access to tools that will push them to be the best students they can be.

Using computers will help some of my students who struggle academically, and my English Language Learners, by providing them with voice-capture technology. This has greatly improved their ability to put ideas on the page during writing. The computers also provide opportunities for me to differentiate for more advanced students. I can create a classroom online, providing extra resources for them to go to when they finish with their assigned classwork.

Finally, some fidget toys will help some of my students to focus during instruction. On the weekly reflection forms that they fill out, the number one request is for fidget toys, to keep their hands active while they focus their mind on the learning.
