Creating Access to Healthiness! Equitable Hygiene and Food Sources

My Project

In Title I schools, many students arrive at school already feeling defeated. Some students do not have access to healthy breakfast choices and hygiene supplies, and arrive at school feeling sluggish. My project seeks to provide hygiene resources that can transform students' daily learning experiences.

Many students in our school community encounter obstacles that go beyond academics.

However, these obstacles should not impede their academic performance and access to education.

This project focuses on hygiene personal care products for students to use at home or at school, and feel confident to take on the school day. In my EC classroom, I will teach my students the necessary skills and routine to complete the daily self care tasks. These items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, hair-ties, deodorant, and cosmetic bags. The students can leave these cosmetic bags at school to use them in the morning.

Additionally, I provide a change of clothes for students who arrive in dirty clothes, or clothes they wore the day before. I have included male and female under garments in my project, so students may receive new, fresh under clothing. Many students do not have the opportunity of home cooked meals after school. Although it does not replace a meal, I also include snacks in the project, so students have the opportunity to take home food for the evening.

By providing the necessary resources, we can foster an environment that values every student's potential and paves the way for their success.
