Because of your generosity, my students now have access to an instrument that has already made a powerful impact on our classroom music-making.\r\n\r\nThe first time we added the bass metallophone to our ensemble, there was an immediate shift in the room. Students could physically feel the low resonance filling the space, and their eyes widened as they heard how much richer and fuller our pieces sounded. It gave them a tangible understanding of how music is layered and how each part plays an important role. They are no longer just playing notes — they are listening, adjusting, and working together to create balance and blend.\r\n\r\nThe instrument has also deepened their understanding of musical structure. As we explore ostinatos, borduns, and harmonic foundations, students are beginning to recognize how the bass line anchors the melody. They are making connections between what they see in the notation and what they hear in the ensemble. That kind of learning is powerful and lasting.\r\n\r\nPerhaps the most meaningful outcome has been the confidence it has built in certain students. The bass part requires steady rhythm, focus, and responsibility. Students who are sometimes quieter or hesitant have stepped into this role proudly, knowing their part truly matters. Watching them sit taller and play with purpose has been incredible.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than provide an instrument — it expanded our musical possibilities, strengthened our ensemble, and gave students new opportunities to grow as musicians and collaborators. Thank you for believing in arts education and for investing in my students' creativity and potential.","fullyFundedDate":1766434665457,"projectUrl":"project/make-the-room-go-boom/9940481/","projectTitle":"Make the Room Go Boom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lysyczyn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9794146_orig.jpg?crop=271,271,x73,y35&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728074625903","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lysyczyn"},{"teacherId":9236376,"projectId":9821260,"letterContent":"We are using the materials to create GLOWING art for our glow room that we will have setup during our art show in the spring. A student who was usually quiet and hesitant in class began strumming along confidently once the instrument was in her hands. Soon, other students joined in, and the class turned into a spontaneous jam session—something I had hoped for but didn't expect to see so soon. These moments are what make this project so meaningful.\r\n\r\nAs we continue, students are learning to play full songs together, which has created a strong sense of teamwork. They're not just learning music—they're experiencing what it means to create something as a group. The next step is preparing for a classroom showcase where students will perform for one another, building both pride and stage presence. The first day the guitars arrived, students gathered around them, eager to begin, and it was clear that this project would spark a new level of engagement in class.\r\n\r\nWe are currently focusing on basic chord shapes, strumming techniques, and applying these skills to popular songs that the students recognize. This immediate connection to music they already love has helped them stay motivated and excited to progress.
