Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach high school seniors, most of whom are recent immigrants, still developing their confidence in English language skills. Some of them have endured traumas related to migration, and many of them are balancing the pressures of school along with employment and family responsibilities. This combination of factors and experiences brings stress to most young people.
This school year will be pivotal for them in many ways as they prepare to graduate from high school and embark on another big life transition.
While they are with me, I want our learning space to be a place that feels warm, welcoming, and joyful.
For the past few years, I have not had my own dedicated classroom, but this year I will have a a learning space to decorate and set up in a way that reflects care, connection, and coziness. The flexible seating options will allow us to move around and collaborate in small groups, and the bulletin board supplies/ lights will allow me to beautify the room.
