Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have come from many different parts of the world including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the United States. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.

At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.

The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.

My Project

With a lighted message box in my students' classroom, I will be able to give students more of a voice. Many of my students are English Language Learners; two of my students are brand new arrivals to the United States. For them, and many of my other ELLs, a whole day of learning in English can be overwhelming and frustrating. They are strong humans, but I think that this opportunity to express themselves would be really exciting and motivating.

I will give each student a chance to inspire and entertain those around them by posting messages during their assigned week.

Even those students who are typically quiet in class discussions will be able to give an encouraging message to others!
