They walk into my class each day full of excitement and eager to see what the day has in store for them. Their boundless enthusiasm motivates me to make school as engaging and meaningful as possible.
Our school is a charter school which serves grades K-8. We have one class per grade level, which makes for a small student body as well as a small amount of staff members. We are truly a school family. The staff strives to help students develop strong mastery in comprehension, computation, and critical thinking. At the same time, there is a strong focus on helping students develop good character, while also focusing on providing services to our community. We aim to have well rounded and informed students.
My Project
After attending a Conscious Discipline training this summer, I am excited to get into our classroom and utilize some of the strategies I was taught.
The I Love You Rituals book, Kindness Counts CD, and Brain Boogie Boosters CD will be used during morning meeting to help give students the sense of belonging.
The remaining books such as "My Mouth is a Volcano" and "What If Everybody Did That?" will be used to teach social skills necessary to maintain a sense of safety in the classroom.
Some of the items requested will go towards making a calm down area. This area of the classroom will be a safe place for students to go when they are feeling frustrated, angry, or sad. The bedrest and heart pillow will help make the space cozy. The Mpow noise cancelling headphones and Fansteck stress balls will be choices provided to help students return to a state of calm so they can rejoin the class and continue learning.
