it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The neighborhood we serve is diverse and tight knit. Our school is small enough in size where we are able to cultivate strong relationships with our students. The school was housed in the same building since it was built in 1898. This year we have finally entered a new school building that has modern amenities and, for the first time in Brightwood's history, a gym and cafeteria space. The students and staff are very excited to start this new chapter in Brightwood's history.
My Project
After being fully remote learning for most of last year, Springfield students have finally been able to come back to school full time for the first time since March of 2020. Brightwood Elementary serves students from Pre-k to 5th grade. Students often break or lose their masks during the day or arrive at school without a mask. We have been going through our mask supply at a fast rate and the need is continuous. Due to the safety protocols, including masks, we have had less than a handful of covid cases so far in the building and we are committed to keeping these numbers low.
