This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Middle school is a hard time for everyone as they not only figure out who they are, but where they feel like they belong. My principal has asked me to start a video game club to reach all students. Our school is made up of students on a lower economic level (grades 7 - 9).

The video game club will help students rebuild their social interaction skills that were hindered during COVID and online-learning.

This club will provide a safe space for students to interact and rebuild / strengthen their social skills through communication and collaboration. It will also provide a place where they can feel a sense of belonging as they share common interests with peers.

This will also introduce students to one of the many computer science career pathways offered by our district. Students will see that there is an opportunity to grow a passion into a lucrative career.

My Project

I was asked to start a video game club to help give students a place of belonging and help them meet new students. With Covid, this will allow students to rekindle communication skills and even help strengthen their social skills all around!

The video game club is a gateway to Computer Science Pathways which aligns with the Utah State K-21 CS initiative.

The purpose of this club is to help students gain computer science and important career skills of critical thinking, problem solving, computational thinking, and mathematical reasoning in all subjects. This club will allow students to strengthen their communication skills with peers, as well as collaborations skills to name a few. The Raspberry Pi computers will introduce programming as they learn to program their own video game and more!
