Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first year teacher I am learning and growing alongside my 8th graders. I work with about 55-60 students a mixture of general, RSP and special education students. My students are extremely outgoing and eager to learn and grow. My students are entering their teenage years so while they are learning they are also learning about themselves. Most of my students live at or below the poverty level and that number is growing.
I am trying to create a warm and welcoming environment in my classroom for my students to flourish.
By providing snacks and books I am giving my students things that they most likely will not find at home. I have a lot of engaged parents that are doing their best but they need some help. This is my opportunity to make my classroom better, more useful and welcoming to all students. Allowing my students to have different unique seats around the room can help them focus and get out of their hard plastic seats. This will create an environment for my students to relax and feel like the classroom is a home away from home.
