Creating a Positive Classroom Community

Help me give my students tools that help my students become successful in the classroom and regulate their emotions.

My Project

Because over half of my students did not attend preschool, they are having difficulty with social interactions, managing emotions, and adapting to the school environment. My hope is that all my students will thrive in their academic performance, as well as their social and mental well being with the help of these social emotional learning materials in my calming corner.

With the social emotional learning materials, I plan to create an area where students can go when they are feeling overwhelmed and need a safe space to decompress.

These tools will help them to reflect on their feelings and aid in regulating their emotions. The puzzles and sensory toys will soothe them so they can regain their emotional balance. They can relax and unwind in the space with the activities until they are ready to join the class. The gel-bead “friends” can help with comforting them as they squeeze it. The wooden board will guide them through mindful breathing and the picture cubes have quiet activities on them so students can comfort themselves in the calming corner. The emotional coin drop will assist my kindergartners in developing skills so they can identify their emotions which is so critical in their emotional and social development.

Currently, I am providing them with the necessary academic tools to help them become successful in their education but need your help in encouraging them to become lifelong learners.
