My students need flexible seating options, such as the calming beanbag seat, in a section of the room where they can go to enjoy peaceful moments throughout the day.
In my fourth grade classroom, magic can happen. I hope for students to come in ready to engage with each other and apply what they have learned to their outside worlds. Students of this age can thrive when they feel engaged and excited by their work. These students are gaining independence while still relying on adult role models to guide them in making the right choices, fixing mistakes, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
When you expect success from your students and provide the support they need to be successful, they will meet your expectations and more.
I love the individual personalities of my students and knowing there is so much hidden potential in all of them. Every day I am challenged to bring out the best in them and do all I can to make sure I am supporting them.
My Project
The flexible seating options, such as the calming colored bean bag chair and the stay in place ball, will provide my students with comfortable seating that they can use in our Peace Corner. The Peace Corner is intended to be a space where students can take a timeout when they are in need of a few minutes of mindfulness to increase their focus or improve their mood.
The comfortable seating will be a great motivator for my students to use the Peace Corner and reap its benefits.
The coloring book will provide the students with something to do, if needed, while they utilize their time away from others. The mandala coloring book is intended to bring peace, awareness, and focus to students as they calmly color in the inspiring images.
As there is no carpet in my classroom, only tile flooring, the towel will be used as a carpet for comfort. I chose this specific item because I believe the mandala pattern will be something my students have not seen before and will enjoy looking at.
The Peace Corner, once complete, will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing them to have breaks throughout the day to calm and refocus their mind. It is proven that by introducing mindfulness to the school day can improve behavior, focus, and mood.
