Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We plan on using this furniture and rugs to revamp our parent room for families. Our school is a Title I school with many families new to the country or living under the poverty line. The goal is to create a welcoming and warm environment for parents and students to come participate at school, share their ideas, and gain resources. We also have a closet in this space that has household items and clothes for families and students to access. Currently, we have a community outreach workers and social worker in the space helping families, and we want to lean into that work.
These materials would create a welcoming environment for parents and students to come do family workshops, collaborate with staff, and find support.
Currently, we have monthly family workshops, meetings for committees like African-American achievement and English Learner advocacy, and student meetings in the space. We want to improve the space that parents and students can come to find mental and physical health, financial and legal resources as well as housing and food support.
