My Project

Nearly two years ago, our county was hit with catastrophic flash flooding. Areas in the community that had never before been flooded ,were found submerged in water.

Our Area Technology Center was one of the buildings that was hit with severe damage.

Once the water had receded, we went to our classrooms to find that they had been flooded with four to over seven feet of water, destroying everything we had in our building. We were devastated.

With the new school year approaching within the next few weeks,, we were housed at the High School to continue with our classes. Now, almost two years later, we are finally preparing to go to our "home" classroom, back in the new building Many of my students know what our building was like prior to the flooding; however, the images of all the mud and all of the destroyed furniture outside still haunts them. My goal for this project is to furnish my classroom with all of the "extra" things that flood insurance money won't provide. I want my students to come into a new and improved classroom, with rugs, a computer desk and caddy so we can push the bad memories aside and make new memories. Our students have suffered enough from the flooding, so I want to ensure they have a nice classroom to make their days better.
