Help me give my students the resources to facilitate learning difficult math concepts with hands-on learning. Additionally, basic classroom materials are included for students' use. Finally, motivational stamps are included.
Our students are kind and thoughtful. They are loving and gentle-natured. Students in the school district in rural southeastern Oklahoma are largely Native American and come from an area with little opportunity for financial stability, and job opportunities are limited. Our students often come from families who have no college education or technical skills training. They deserve every opportunity we can provide to help them excel and achieve greatness.
I have been hired as a math interventionist for grades 3-8 to help identify/fill gaps in their math knowledge; therefore, my goal is to make that intervention process a fun experience, a place where these students can grow, feel secure, be motivated, and thrive!
This grant would afford me the opportunity to invest in materials to teach and reinforce math concepts. Fractions are one of the most difficult concepts for students. many of the requested materials focus on fraction concepts for various age levels. Geometry skills also are challenging to comprehend without manipulatives. As the math interventionist, I have students in and out of my classroom throughout the day. The air purifier will help control the airborne particles helping to protect the children. We use colored pencils, thus the pencil sharpener, to color code notes and help practice skills such as identifying odd and even numbers, graphing activities, and much more. Integers are another abstract concept that the number line can bring to the concrete level. Counting money and making change are vital life skills that the cash register and model money make easier to practice. Motivational materials encourage students’ progress. By building students' knowledge and, in turn, their self-confidence and success, I believe that our students will be given the necessary skills to be productive, self-sufficient, successful adults.
