This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a Title I school in New York City’s upper east side. I’ve been blessed this year with a kind bunch that love to learn. They enjoy hands-on projects, group/peer learning, and independent reading time.
I’ve done what I can to make our library warm and engaging for my kiddos but I need some help.
My students absolutely love to read and unfortunately, our library is lacking. Our books are outdated and falling apart. I purchased a few books for the class, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dogman, Time Warp Trio, out of my own pocket. When I presented them to the class their faces lit up and they couldn’t wait to read them. I want to stock my library with new books that I just know my students will love. Please help enhance my students’ natural love for reading by donating to our project. I can’t wait to see the smiles on their faces when we receive our new books.
My Project
My students spend at least 30 minutes a day reading independently in the classroom and are allowed to take books out of the classroom library to take home. Our current library is outdated and the books are falling apart. I am also in desperate need of books from guided reading levels G-I. They need new books to keep them engaged in order to build their reading skills. Creating a new library for them will keep them engaged and excited to read.
Many of them are below level readers and need as much encouragement as they can to continue building their reading skills.
New books and seats will excite my students as well as give them the library they truly deserve.
