As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with many challenges in and out of school. Despite the many challenges my students face, they come to school every day eager to learn. My students are an amazing group of 1st graders who are intelligent, curious, and fun!.
My school is in a high poverty area.
I teach at a Title I school in Des Moines, Iowa, where the majority of students qualify for free and reduced-priced lunches. I worry that many of my students' needs are not being met at home. As an educator, my goal is to make sure my students get the best quality education and experiences at school. Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I try to make our learning environment and school experiences positive and meaningful. I am hoping to pave a path toward academic excellence for my students!
My first-grade students are always so eager to learn new things! They are the most hardworking students and have a love for reading. We have a large selection of books in our classroom, however, we are lacking a comfortable and cozy space that is organized and allows easy access to the books they love.
Reading books for fun is one of the most popular activities in my classroom.
I would love to provide a new bookshelf with colorful bins, and cozy pillows to increase my students' love for reading!
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
