My Project
I am a literacy teacher for high school students with moderate to severe disabilities. Many of the students in my school have difficulty clearing expressing their thoughts and feelings. All year, our students have been working on organizing their writing. This spring, our school will host a creative writing club in which students can showcase and share their writing with the entire school as a means of self expression.
Help provide my students develop a creative writing club open to the entire school and prepare for a gallery walk by providing us with poster-board, writing prompts, and a color printer!
This will be a student run club where students come together weekly and can act as peer editors to help other students develop writing skills. This club will create an open environment where students can grow as creative writers and critical thinkers with support and advisement from peers and literacy mentors. Since most of my students prefer to write on their computers, due to the ease of editing and spell check, the color printer and ink will allow students to add some graphic design, pictures and borders to their work before printing it out for display. Student writing samples will be displayed throughout the school using the poster board to boost interest in literacy within the entire school community. Students will print and display the work themselves, and will present their writing to patrons during the upcoming gallery walk in June.
