This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hi! Thank you for taking the time to find out about myself and my students. My school has over 1,000 students and is rated a tier 1 school (high poverty). This year, for the first time, I will be teaching a first grade Integrated Co-Teaching class (ICT) with a special ed teacher. Our class will be half special ed and half general ed. The 30 or so students that we teach will be encouraged to be the best they can be. We are warm, supportive and encouraging.
Our students don't have a lot of support at home, so we strive to create an environment where they have the support to try new things and are not afraid to take risks.
We do not get a classroom budget for school supplies so we try to do our best to supply our students with what we can on our own or are able to make. Any help would be greatly appreciated by our students.
My Project
Making some adjustments in my classroom to welcome my Co-Teacher and the wide range of abilities our first grade ICT class will have. Books of many levels need to be easily accessible to our students in and out of the classroom. The book bins would make it easy for students to bring books to their level to sort and choose from. The book bags will give the children a personal space to store their books to read in class and take home to read and share with their families or caretakers.
The canvas bags will be used by students to travel with books, cards, journals, and objects based on a theme or author to enjoy and encourage literacy at school and home.
The ink will provide us with opportunities to print pictures, words, and activities that coordinate with the bags in the canvas bags.
