This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think back to when you were a kindergartener. Where did all of the students in your kindergarten class come together to learn the majority of the time?

My 25 kindergarten students attend an urban school where resources and funding are limited.

They are all happy-go-lucky little kids despite some of the difficult circumstances they come from. All of them are eager to learn and learning together on the rug is a big part of each school day.

My Project

Getting a new rug in our classroom will help to build and create community for my kindergarteners. We spend the better part of each morning learning together on the rug. We also spend time on the rug during each core subject area both as a whole group, as well as in small groups learning on the rug. The rug is also the place that my students go to have stories read to them during read aloud each day.

The rug we currently have has been passed down by several teachers and has been sat on by lots of students over the years.

Donations to my project for a new rug will give my students a fresh, new spot to sit every single day and will be used by future students for years to come.
