My Students
I am a Philadelphia kindergarten teacher who works with students from low-income neighborhoods. My students come to school each day with different experiences and diverse backgrounds. It is an absolutely magical thing to see when they all come together as one to learn, however they face many challenges when they leave school. Many students' families are unable to afford school supplies and books. Because of this, my students light up when they are provided with quality educational materials. This shows me that my students have such a strong desire to learn, be challenged, and explore.
My Project
Unfortunately our district's buildings are very old and do not always provide an inviting learning space for students. Most of the city's money is used to repair broken structures and ensure healthy buildings by removing lead. Because of this, teachers are left using a lot of their own money to create colorful, inviting spaces that encourage learning. When students see that their learning space is taken care of, they are more motivated to come to school and learn. I am asking for materials to help make our space more learning friendly. Colored bins will help me organize the classroom in a way that students can easily navigate and find class materials. Laminating sheets and colored ink will help me bring their learning materials to life. For example, I will be able to create literacy centers that students can re-use and appreciate! We also only have black printing at my school, therefore colored ink will help me differentiate work using color coding for my special learners. Please help me create a fun and inviting classroom for my scholars! I appreciate all your help!
