My students need basic school supplies to be successful, visuals to help them learn, academic games to create a fun learning environment, and sensory items to make them work hard and feel calm.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds and many have remained at our school from Pre-K to 8th grade. Middle school can be a tough place to navigate and can sometimes cause some anxiety for 5th graders who have become 6th graders that are now in middle school and 8th graders about to make that move to high school. Emotionally, the students are eager to fit in but still sometimes need another place to learn or get that extra help in order to be at the goal of grade level. These students are eager, smart, and funny, they enjoy coming to school everyday and building relationships with staff and peers. This community is amazing and holds education in high regard. I am privileged to be their teacher and hope to get some things to keep their skills sharp and get them to their individual goals!
My Project
These materials I've chosen will help my students learn, many of them have varying abilities in academic and social areas. Sometimes they are 2 grade levels behind, by having the supplies to start out the school year they can be confident in their classroom and teacher. Basic supplies for the students such as markers, colored pencils, pens, pencils, a sharpener, and markers will make starting the day off easy. Students will not need to worry about basic supplies and I can freely give them what they need for their multiple classes or let them do their many projects in my classroom with the supplies readily available. The visual timers help them see the "end" and make work production higher. The games are academic incentives for listening and doing the best they can while working. These make it so they can still be in a learning environment at all times even when playing a game that helps with vocabulary. The flash cards and math worksheets will help with our math holes and get students to understand concepts such as multiplication and division by memorization. The sensory items will help with calming strategies and emotional regulation. I'm ready to start to school year with my new students and have them be confident that they don't have to worry about pencils or pens, or many of the items they will need to be successful.
