My Project
My middle school students' favorite time of day is read aloud. People would assume that middle schoolers don't enjoy reading aloud, or conversations surrounding reading. But when my students are supported by their classmates in collaboration and can enjoy reading as a team, they retain information. More importantly, they never forget the stories and discussions we have. Why not have those same benefits in their independent reading?
Our 8th-grade classroom library is ready to transform into an inviting, inclusive, collaborative space that makes reading a team effort.
Independent reading is a cornerstone of literacy development. However, our current reading space lacks the resources needed to engage students and support their reading journey fully. Without comfortable seating, auditory support, and motivating materials, students struggle to stay focused and collaborate effectively.
We need multiple sets of books that cater to various interests and reading levels, encouraging students to explore and enjoy reading in groups. Headphones will provide access to audiobooks and other audio resources, improving comprehension and making reading more accessible. Flexible seating will offer students agency over their collaborative reading time and space, and focus on collaborative conversations in comfort.
Your donation will enhance our reading space and support student engagement and collaboration. These new additions will help students focus on their reading and discussions, leading to better reading levels and fostering a supportive reading community.
