This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students arrive to school eager to learn and socialize! Our school is older, so there is an established neighborhood around us that we are continually trying to bridge a stronger sense of community. In an effort to do this we are creating an after school reading café: Between the Lines. That's why we are requesting funding for flexible seating options in our library

Flexible seating has been shown to increase student engagement. Between the Lines will be a space where those who go home to empty homes can stay for a while, as well as whole families come to work on literacy skills together. By providing everyone with a variety of seating options, such as bean bag chairs, balance balls, and lap desks, we are providing a safe, after school space to relax and read. This will not only improve their reading experience, but also make the library a more inviting and comfortable place to be.
