Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders come to school each day eager to learn. They have had limited life experiences, so each classroom experience is new and exciting for them! They thrive in the classroom and, are truly like sponges, soaking up everything they learn. It's a pleasure to be their teacher!
My little learners come from homes where Spanish is typically the language spoken.
Most of the children in my classroom receive free or reduced lunch and rarely do they have books at home. While the odds seemed stacked against them, they have something going for them...they love school and their attendance is above average. Our school is the largest elementary school in our city. Even though it's large, it has a true family feel to it. Our teachers and staff come together to provide amazing experiences to the students in our care.
My Project
During our literacy block, students will be given some choice in their learning. One of the choices they can make will be to read to themselves or with a friend. That's where these resources come into play. My first graders will be allowed to choose where they would like to read and by providing them with bean bag chairs and soft seats, the possibilities are endless! The bean bag chairs and soft seats will allow them to move around the room and find a comfy spot to explore their books. It will make reading more enjoyable and will encourage them increase their reading stamina.
Your donation will benefit my classroom in a significant way!
By donating to this project, you will help make our literacy block more enjoyable. My first graders will look forward to reading when they can sit on something besides the hard floor or a classroom chair. Your generosity will certainly help my students find the joy in reading!
