My Project
These materials will allow me to create my counseling center a warm, inviting, and relaxing place for students to come and self-regulate. As a school counselor, it is my job to address the social and emotional needs of all the students in my elementary school. To tackle such a big job I need to set up a safe place for the student to come and visit me and work on their emotional needs that are hindering them from success in the classroom. Research has shown that providing a place that is quiet, reflects nature, and tools for students to use/play with helps reduce anxiety and neurotic symptoms while at school.
As a new full-time school counselor, I am starting with nothing.
These materials will give me a head start in providing an environment and experience for students that will be restorative. The items I have requested will enhance my work as a school counselor to connect to the students who are struggling the most and work with them to improve their emotional and social well-being. When a student is able to come to my office and self-regulate, they are building resiliency and thus increasing their chance of success in their educational pursuits here at school!
