Creating a Comfy, Cozy Calming Corner

Help me give my students the tools to learn how to regulate their emotions in the classroom.

My Project

The items to create a calming corner in our classroom will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to identify emotions and feelings as well as develop strategies to manage them. Items like the pillow inserts and wiggle seats are multisensory and will help students who need additional sensory input, recognize which specific emotions they are feeling, and allow them a safe place to take a break in the classroom.

In an early childhood special needs classroom, social-emotional learning is extremely important for the development of self-regulation skills.

A calming corner will help the educational professionals and myself who work in my classroom to facilitate social-emotional learning. Another goal would be to empower students to learn appropriate ways to manage "big feelings" in the classroom setting.

My preschool class this year is different than those of previous due to the addition of multiple 3-year-old students who are sharing their first educational experience with me! They are super excited to learn and grow and having a calming corner in our classroom would further their understanding of social-emotional learning.
