Creating a Comfort Zone for Emotionally Vulnerable Children
My students need furniture for the Comfort Zone: a safe place to calm down away from their classroom environment.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Lugo's classroom raised $598
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of children ages 5-10 in a Public School in the Bronx, NY with a variety of needs. Our students are caring, and compassionate individuals who love and long for individual attention for support. The children work hard on building life skills that will help them grow to be successful model citizens.
At times, they need to be in an environment where they can take a few minutes to calm down, and be carefree while engaging in quiet, stimulating activities as positive redirection.
I love their diverse personalities and I am always seeking to create an environment to meet those needs. As their Guidance Counselor, it is crucial to provide a safe space where every child can come to when in crisis to effectively implement strategies to manage their frustrations.
My Project
The bean bag and soft chairs will be set up in a family style manner that will provide a comfortable place were students can calm down and relax when experiencing anxiety and frustration. Quill has the perfect items that are needed to provide a comfort zone. The students will go to the comfort zone when facing challenges and will practice problem solving strategies independently helping them to redirect their behaviors for productive outcomes. The items will make the comfort zone calm, welcoming, serene and colorful for all students to benefit from. We all look forward to having these items!
