My students need to be better prepared for college by expanding their vocabulary and preparing for college entrance exams. They need aids, like the Kaplan ACT in a Box, "Flocabulary: The Hip-Hop Approach to SAT-Level Vocabulary" and "Hot Words for the SAT."
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every student deserves the opportunity to reach his highest potential. My students have had obstacles in their lives that could hinder the possibilities. By improving their vocabulary, they will be prepared to tackle the college admission process.
In the AVID program, students are selected based on their ability to perform college level work, but typically have an obstacle that would keep them from college admittance.
Often, these students lack the vocabulary to score well on college admission tests. By providing additional resources, the playing field will be leveled thereby allowing these students an opportunity for success.
My Project
Reading and vocabulary is integral for success in all classes. By improving the vocabulary of each student, academic improvement should be seen across the board in students grades. Providing creative resources will allow for differentiation of assignments and make learning fun!
Having a large vocabulary produces a wide variety of advantages.
Students can express themselves more precisely while communication with others and participating in the world around them. With an improvement in a student's vocabulary, test scores will improve and more doors will open to students.
