Creating a Cleaner Tomorrow

Help me give my students a variety of fiction and nonfiction books to support my students' conservation research and project based unit along with canvases and craft glue for my students to make bottle cap mosaics.

My Students

I'm an inclusion teacher at a Title I school in Hawaii. There might be negative stereotypes about the people on the Leeward coast of Oahu, but they are only stereotypes. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, from single-parent households and families with two working parents with multiple jobs, to families with comfortable living situations. With their diverse backgrounds, they all have a few things in common.

My students are enthusiastic, caring individuals who love learning and hands-on activities.

I teach an amazing class of eight and nine-year-olds. Regardless of what life throws at them, they always show up to school ready to learn, do their best work, and cheer each other on. They help nurture each other's growth in and out of the classroom. They are determined to make each day better than yesterday, and I am lucky to call them my students.

My Project

My students have been working hard to learn and understand the similarities and differences between fiction and nonfiction texts. They are learning how different text features are used for a variety of purposes to help organize, share and emphasize information and ideas. My students are learning to form their own opinions and defend them with evidence.

This conservation unit will allow my students to use everything they've learning about reading comprehension and integrate it with social studies, environmental science, and art to create a cleaner planet for their future.

We need a variety of fiction and nonfiction books for students to read and use for research. We also need canvases and craft glue to create bottle cap mosaics for their recycled art.

Thank you for your support and consideration of this project.
