My Students
My students are hard-working, curious, and bright. They are interested in the world around them. In class, they are constantly asking, "What if..." or "How could we change this?" They are brilliant scholars, and their hard work deserves to be seen.
The skill levels in my classroom are quite varied.
The EBIA population includes a large percentage of English language learners and students with special needs. My goal is to provide a rigorous academic curriculum that meets students where they are at and pushes them to master the skills and content in my classroom.
My Project
How do you turn 10th graders into readers? You provide them with high-interest, engaging books. That's where "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker, "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley, and "A Midsummer Nights Dream" by William Shakespeare come in.
I have curious and motivated 10th graders.
I want each of them to discover the joy of the characters in these texts, consider the perspectives of others, and deeply explore the themes that emerge in these readings.
At the end of each of each unit, I want my students to reflect on this text and be able to say, “The more I wonder, the more I love.” The versatility and universality of these novels make it a wonderful investment for the classroom because they can be used in just about any grade level and analyzed at a variety of skill levels.
