This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Rogers kinders are constantly on the move. When they're not working independently at their desk, they're sitting on the rug for a lesson, talking to their partners, writing on whiteboards, looking for snap words, studying the ABC chart, sitting back to back or elbow to elbow with a reading buddy, helping each other open milk cartons, or reminding one another of the classroom expectations.

Rogers kinders are independent learners.

They navigate the classroom, use their resources, get to work right away, and speak up for themselves. It can be tricky being 5, but these kiddos are determined to "try try try, not cry cry cry," and to tell themselves, "I think I can do it." We constantly remind ourselves that it's ok to make mistakes because mistakes make our brains bigger!

Rogers kinders are kind. When someone feels down or sad, they come to the rescue with a "why are you sad?" or "Do you want to play with me?" Every morning they greet each other with a smile and a wave and tell their friends to have a great day. They make the classroom a place where everyone wants to be.

My Project

Students will be able to take control of their learning using tangible materials. These carefully selected items will support students during small group work and playtime in the classroom. Students learn best when picking up, moving, and manipulating objects during play. Students stay engaged when activities are fun, colorful, and easy to manage. In Kindergarten, we spend a lot of time building foundational skills, such as counting to 20, strengthening fine motor skills through grasping and cutting, tracing and writing letters, and making words. All of which are essential tools for supporting students in their learning journey.
