Creating a Classroom Community

Help me give my students books for the classroom library, and flexible seating options. Some students struggle sitting for long period of time, so a stand up desk will help them stay engaged.

My Students

Do you remember being so wrapped up in a book that you didn't want to put it down? Most of my students have never experienced this feeling. They binge-watch a Netflix series, yet they do not realize that books can do the same thing.

My students come to the classroom with a plethora of knowledge ranging from fishing and hunting to mechanics and other hands-on skills.

This ethnically and socioeconomically diverse group of students has a thirst for knowledge that just has to be unlocked.

My Project

After the uncertainty since the pandemic began, now, more than ever, it is important to create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.

The aim of this project is to provide tools to ease the transition back to 100% in-person learning, while also promoting an increase in literacy.

It is my goal this year for my students to read for class, but to also learn to read for pure entertainment on their own. It is my hope to open their eyes to the wonders literature can provide.

This project will support students by expanding our classroom library. In addition, the project provides a large whiteboard for student only contributions to give them a sense of place in our classroom, and a class set of small whiteboards to create another modality for student contributions to class discussions, and provides 2 stand up desks to allow my more energetic students an opportunity to complete class work standing, and transition more easily to 100% in person learning.
