Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 4th grade students on the West Side of Chicago. Last year, I had one particular student that was always reading... He read while walking down the hallway, eating lunch, at recess, and even in math class! After observing him for several days, I began to think... How wonderful it would be for all of my students to love reading like he does! Developing a classroom library with interesting books will serve to appeal to my reluctant readers.

My Project

As a 4th grade reading teacher, I am committed to providing opportunities for my students that are interesting and relevant so that they can experience optimal success. In a classroom where over 70 percent of the students have not reached proficiency levels in Reading and Language Arts, I feel that creating a love for books and reading is the perfect avenue to reach our goal. The books that I am requesting will serve as a springboard to spark an interest in reading that the old boring reading textbook has not provided. I can just imagine all of the reading that will be happening in my classroom and it makes me very excited!
