Creating a Calming and Engaging Classroom for My ESE Students

Help me give my students flexible seating and calming animal tools to support their emotional regulation, focus, and engagement, creating a comforting classroom environment tailored to their ESE needs.

My Project

As a newly promoted ESE teacher, I am dedicated to fostering my students' emotional and academic achievements in a safe, nurturing environment. To support their diverse sensory and learning needs, I seek funding for differentiated seating—including beanbags, wobble stools, and cushions—to promote autonomy, comfort, and focus. Research shows flexible seating improves engagement, collaboration, and on-task behavior, particularly for students with ADHD or autism. Additionally, I want to create a calming space stocked with plush animals, weighted items, and sensory tools to help students self-regulate when overwhelmed.

Calming centers have been shown to reduce stress and support emotional regulation in special education settings.

Together, these resources will enable my students to feel centered, relaxed, and ready to learn academically and emotionally.
