My Project

Teaching students with sensory needs can be challenging at times. Students on the Autism Spectrum experience excessive sensory input and need a safe place to decompress while experiencing an overload of overwhelming feelings. Students on the spectrum have difficulty communicating their needs, often resulting in behaviors. As an educator, it is necessary to provide a positive, fun, and engaging environment using preferred reinforcers to increase appropriate on-task behaviors.

As a new teacher, my goal is to create a room inviting to those on the Autism Spectrum by providing them with soft lighting, a safe space, and reinforcers that are both preferred and educating at the same time.

The items I have requested will help my students to meet their individualized goals while supporting sensory needs.
