Creating a Calm Space: Supporting Student Mental Health

My Project

High school can be overwhelming. Help me create a calming wellness corner with resources and tools that support students' mental health, mindfulness, and emotional regulation.

High school students today are navigating academic pressures, social challenges, and personal struggles, often all at once.

As a school mental health support specialist, I see the challenges our students are dealing with day in and day out. Many of my students are dealing with anxiety, stress, and emotional fatigue, yet they don't always have the tools or safe spaces to decompress or reset.

This project will help me create a dedicated mental wellness area in my office. This "Calm Wellness Corner" will be a safe, welcoming space where students can go when they need a short mental break, emotional regulation, or guided reflection.

In this space, students will have a sofa couch to sit and reset on with a fridge that will have cold water stored for them to drink and a microwave to heat up popcorn and other snacks. The space will include sensory tools, mindfulness activities, and comfort items that help reduce stress and teach coping strategies. (These items have been previously funded in another project.)
