This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a speech therapist, I work with an incredible group of students who receive speech therapy in order to improve their communication skills. Each of my students show unique strengths, endless curiosity and the determination to grow. I am a dedicated speech therapist, working in a low income district, where my students face many challenges beyond their communication needs.

One of the biggest barriers to learning that I see every day is hunger.

Many of my students come to school without enough to eat, making it difficult for them to focus, stay engaged, and fully benefit from their speech therapy sessions.

That’s why I am reaching out for support in providing healthy snacks for my students. A simple snack can make a world of difference, giving them the energy they need to participate, practice their speech and language skills, and make meaningful progress.

Beyond nourishment, snacks help create a calm and supportive learning environment. When students are hungry, they may feel irritable, anxious, or distracted, making it harder for them to focus on their speech goals. By ensuring they have access to snacks, we are creating a calming space, where they feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn. When basic needs are met, students are better able to engage, build confidence, and succeed. With your generous donation, I can obtain snacks like granola bars, cereal, cup noodle soup, and other nutritious snacks.

Furthermore, materials like dry erase markers and a whiteboard can support my students by providing visual support. A whiteboard allows me to map out language concepts, and work on their IEP goals such as vocabulary development. Dry erase markers allow learning to feel low pressure and flexible, as mistakes can be easily corrected.
