Creating a Calm Space for Students With Special Needs

My Project

My primary students with special needs often struggle with self-regulation and sensory processing. This project will provide tools to support their emotional and behavioral needs.

Recognizing, naming, and managing emotions are crucial developmental steps that directly impact students’ behavior and learning.

A calm corner in our classroom will provide a safe and supportive space where students can reset, reflect, and work through overwhelming emotions. With tools like visual emotion charts, soft seating, a trampoline, fidget items, and calming visuals, students will develop foundational skills in self-regulation and emotional literacy. These supports are vital in helping students manage behavioral challenges and cope with sensory overstimulation throughout the school day.
