My Students
My 2nd graders are curious, creative, and unique. Their excitement for learning is contagious! My students attend a rural K-6 school with just under 40% of our population receiving free and reduced lunch.
Throughout the school year, we work on problem-solving techniques that will allow students to regulate themselves.
They enjoy an inviting classroom with a healthy and diverse mix of books and technology. They will be encouraged and challenged during the school year, and I look forward to watching them grow and succeed.
My Project
Many students struggle with behaviors for a variety of reasons. I want to have a variety of sensory tools and toys available, such as stress balls and fidget toys, for my students to use when necessary. A weighted lap pad will provide light pressure when a child feels out of control. This will be especially helpful for my students with autism.
Creating a Calm Down Corner in my classroom will offer a safe place for my students to work on self-regulation techniques.
The space will be covered with large pillows, and the items that I have included in this project will be nearby. Students who can use these tools and strategies effectively will be more successful in our classroom and have stronger peer relationships. We will work together to create an environment in which students respect others' differences and celebrate their successes.
