Help me give my students a new, technology library. They will be able to reach their potential while regulating their own emotions and feeling fully engaged!
Our school is in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but its population is not native to that area. We are a District 75 school in NYC, meaning it teaches solely students with special education needs. Specifically, our students have emotional and behavioral challenges. This also means that we are not a "community school". Students from our school commute from their local areas by school bus or public transportation. They are taken from areas of NYC where they feel comfortable and safe to an unfamiliar and, seemingly, unfriendly place.
Being a student with emotional and/or behavioral needs can make school, something so stress inducing, even more triggering.
My students need an environment that helps them remain calm while also helping them reach their academic potential. My students thrive in a welcoming classroom that has engaging activities planned for every moment of the day. One way to optimize my students' learning is through technology. I would like to give them the opportunity to experience knowledge through as many different modes as possible, but we come from a school that does not always have all the resources it needs. I would like to create a technology library for my students.
My Project
My students often learn best when provided information in many different ways. The students in my classroom also benefit from being able to control their own learning and isolate themselves from unnecessary chaos. Since my students have behavorial and emotional needs, I like to plan lessons that are exciting and engaging. They function best when things are visually stimulating and interactive. Furthermore, I use many lesson platforms that require the internet and technology capabilities, such as Flocabulary. Having technology for everyone in the classroom will allow my students to be more engaged, more focused, and access more immediate feedback. Please, help my students access the education they deserve.
