Creating a Calm and Inviting Classroom

Help me give my students a calm, relaxing retreat from this crazy world. All of the items in my cart are there to help improve the environment of our classroom. Help me help them enjoy this space!

My Students

The students at at my school are very unique. We have families and students come from all over the world, even parts of Africa and the Middle East. Our classrooms are home to a set of diverse individuals. Our school is a Title I school that brings in a lot of low income families. The parents do what they can to help support their children, even if that support isn't visibly present.

Even though our students don't always start out with what they need; they have grit, and persevere.

Many of our students fill out paper work to get basic needs from the school. This looks different for many families, but it can come in the form of food, health assistance, glasses, clothes and even undergarments. Much of the academic supplies they have are solely supplies given to them from the school's budget or my own wallet.

My Project

The purpose of this project it to help my students have a relaxing, calm environment when they come to school. All of these items are here to help them feel welcome and healthy when in class. There have been so many unknowns due to COVID and things out of their control. I want a healthy, clean, welcoming, clam, loving, pleasant smelling place for them to enjoy when they are able to be at school.

Many of the items in this project are to help with sensory control and provides all students with a healthy place to be for eight hours a day.

The light covers are to help with the harsh lighting in the classroom. The air purifier is to help with our inversion, and added chemicals used to clean our rooms to keep us safe from COVID. The humidifier is to help with our very dry air. The speaker is to add calming music during down times in our day. Lastly, many students were online last year and very wiggly. The few wiggle seats I have in my room are used and shared so well. This will provide enough for my whole class to enjoy one of their own.
