My Project
The couch and chairs already have a space waiting for them in the library. Our school has furnished wobble stools, rockers, and bean bags for the students to use in the library. The couch and chairs will complete the space, making it possible for every student to have a choice of flexible seating during library class. Any time students are given a choice, learning outcomes increase. Giving students options for their work and reading space in the library offers them autonomy and allows them to be a part of the learning process.
I want to make the library a place where students want to be.
Offering flexible seating at various stations makes the library a more welcoming and warmer environment. I want the library to mimic the public library in the way that it offers a sense of community and a place where everyone can come to read and learn.
My students love coming to the library during times other than library class. They come before school, during recess time, and even buy passes to eat lunch in the library. They are invested in the library space. Many of the students help shelve books, decorate, and help younger students locate books. Several clubs meet in the library as well. I want to foster that love of reading and being in the library, so that when students are adults, they will want to frequent their local library.
